Karn guest starred in two episodes of Tim Allen's 2010s ABC/Fox sitcom Last Man Standing in 2013. Thomas has also appeared on Last Man Standing, and has directed episodes of the series. It’s just a thought and it may sound ludicrous but I think he could more then pull it off. An avid fan of the Detroit professional sports teams, Tim wears Lions, Pistons, Red Wings, and Tigers clothing in numerous instances, and many plots revolve around the teams. Re-building a car like this take years, any car lover will appreciate the way they show this... Jill gets another important assignment from the magazine, which leaves Tim having to take care of more duties around the house. Laundry, cleaning, and overseeing the boys' gingerbread house poses plenty of challenges for Tim, each of which he tries to take care of in his own way.

I found these episodes to be funny and enjoyable, with just enough seriousness for me to take them seriously. This certainly isn’t the best show I have ever seen, but I did really enjoy what it had to offer for the most part. I just could never really get past my initial assumption that Tim Allen was somehow holding something back. What’s even more strange is that when we watch his movies, it seems like he is just suffering through those. Something tells me he could really juice up his career if he played the role of bad guy.

Stephen Tobolowsky was tapped to play the Tool Time co-host, Glen. However, he was still busy with a movie that was in the middle of production at the time the first pilot was to be shot. Therefore, the producers set out to cast an alternate character that would stand in as Tim's co-host for the pilot, or for however many episodes were required until Tobolowsky was available. The casting department auditioned Richard Karn, for what would be his first major appearance on a TV sitcom; the character of Al Borland was created from there. After the first few episodes completed with Patricia Richardson as Jill, Tobolowsky was still tied up with his other commitments, and Karn found himself in his role permanently when Tobolowsky decided he would have no time to do a series. Home Improvement is an American television sitcom starring Tim Allen that aired on ABC from September 17, 1991 to May 25, 1999 with a total of 204 half-hour episodes spanning eight seasons.

I personally think that he can be funny, but I think that situation comedies like Home Improvement - Season 2 are just not the right place for his brand of humor. While watching this show, I always got the impression that he wanted to be might more racier then he was. That there are a lot of things he wanted to say, but he couldn’t say because he was on regular TV. In fact, this show really seemed more like something he felt he had to do, rather then like something he really wanted to do.

A large portion of the show is watching Tim get into hot water with his wife, his kids, and his coworkers. Fortunately, his neighbor Wilson is always there to give him advice, although, Tim never seems to be able to follow Wilson's advice exactly, but things always turn out alright.

I know that I say this a lot, but I think this material has basically made me say it again, this is a simple TV show so the sound design isn’t going to be anything out of the ordinary. Save for the moments when the laughter happens and a character has to wait to deliver his next line, there aren’t really any moments where things happen with the sound in a Coppola-esque way. Nor do I think the people buying this box set expect to put the disks in their player and have a hard time hearing what is being said. I found that on my crummy TV setup, I was able to hear everything just fine. In fact, I really didn’t have to adjust the sound levels on my television set at all.

I personally think that he can be funny, but I think that situation comedies like Home Improvement - Season 2 are just not the right place for his brand of humor. In "Rites and Wrongs Of Passage", Brad starts to act like an out of control teenager and Tim isn't quite sure how to handle the situation. Randy gets picked on at school and Tim takes the issue straight to the bully's father, who turns out to be just as bad as his son. While facing the day-to-day challenges of parenting, marriage, and being an accident-prone personality, Tim again frequently looks over the fence for help. Always there to listen and advise is the Taylors' sage, enigmatic neighbor Wilson .

I really never watched this show just because when it was on, I was so busy doing other things that I basically didn’t watch TV at all. So now getting the chance to revisit it, I think I have stated pretty clearly why this show was successful. Tim Allen has the ability to be really funny and as a result of this we really like him. Add to this that Home Improvement - Season 2 is a very light, easily accessible show and something that can appeal to both men and women , and I think one can understand why this show was as popular as it is. Tim Allen hammers home the laughs as Tim "The Toolman" Taylor in Home Improvements's hilarious second season.

One of "Home Improvement"'s most dramatic episodes, though it's pulled off tactfully. To balance Tim's frequent hardheadedness is his wife Jill who in Season 2 explores some career possibilities when she is hired for a temporary job at a local magazine and asked to return. Tim and Jill's marriage poses plenty of conflict (always resolvable within the half-hour) and their disagreements would often be the basis for a show. The second season provides many a dilemma for the couple that has been married for 15 years, including whether to get involved with friends' romances, asking for directions when driving, determining who owns what in their relationship, and assessing their compatibility . This season also features a few more episodes about Tim and Jill still trying to work out the kinks in their relationship. In "Overactive Glance" Jill gets a little too sensitive when Tim looks at another woman and Tim tries to prove to her he can go an evening without looking at other women. In "Groin Pulls", Tim tries to show Jill what a manly man he is, but at what cost? The episode "You're Driving Me Crazy, You're Driving Me Nuts" is quite funny. Tim tries to convince Jill he doesn't need direction to get their friend's wedding.

The show hosted by Tim Taylor in the shooting script for Home Improvement was still called Hammer Time when the first pilot with Frances Fisher was filmed in April 1991. The catalyst for the series' name change was to represent the aspect of fixing problems within the family and home life, as well as the use of mechanics and tools.
